When buying:

-         Look for bulk or “complete” offers. Most potential buyers don’t want to pay for stuff they don’t want. You can always sell off the excess stuff.

-         Look for stuff with no or lousy pictures. Email the seller for better ones.

-         Know what you’re buying.

-         Check Wikipedia and any other source you can find. with that background look for stuff with short or no descriptions. “Can’t test it, selling as spare parts” means “junk”. Again, email the seller.

-         Bid only on auctions that end near the end of the month before people get their paychecks.

-         Get your paper work in order first.

When selling:

Clean everything until it sparkles

-         Add useful goodies, like a cleaning kit, bag, holster, scope, targets, magazines, brass for reloading or ammo. Add CO2 cartridges when selling aCO2 powered air gun.

-         Use enough light when taking pictures. Ideally one picture should be slightly off-center from the muzzle along the gun.

-         Don’t forget the useful goodies, include one picture of the whole package.

-         Show the bidders what they’re going to get. – Have your auctions end on a Sunday evening when people are about to receive their paychecks or just received them. – write a long-ish description that also mentions any problems or other nicks and dings. Again, “Can’t test it, selling as spare parts” means “junk”. “This and that problem, haven’t got the time/tools to fix” means “fixable bargain”.

After the auction:
-Let the buyer/seller know what’s happening.”

-If there are any problems, contact the other party directly and politely to resolve these problems.

-Always leave positive feedback unless the other party happens to be a scoundrel. In that case contact the admins of the auction platform; they’ll do the rest.
